Here's a topic that might be interesting. What made you first interested in kaiju or tokusatsu? Any particular film or show the reason?
For me, it goes back as far as I can remember. I had some Godzilla movies on VHS growing up, and I'd watch them all the time. I was really young, so I don't know if they were originally mine or my dad's. But ol' Goji had to be the thing that first got me into it. Although Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers likely played a smaller hand as well, but I would credit Godzilla for my interest more. Since it goes back so far I can't say the first memory I have of it, so I can't determine the first movie I ever saw. But I know the VHSes I had were Son of Godzilla, Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla, Godzilla VS the Sea Monster (Ebirah, Horror of the Deep), King Kong VS Godzilla, Mothra VS Godzilla, Godzilla VS Megalon, and the Godzilla 1985 dub of the 1984 Godzila. Those were the ones I grew up with, so it had to be one of them.
Since then it always just stuck with me. I've been a fan of giant monsters all my life as result. What about you guys? Anyone else wanna weigh in on their introduction to kaiju?

My first introduction to kaiju as a whole was certainly the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and VR Troopers. Those Tokusatsu properties were some of my biggest influences as a kid, and then one day I watched the original Gojira on TCM, and I was hooked. After that, I absorbed as much as I could, and then, even though it's regarded as a failure, the 1998 Godzilla film really cemented things. I had all the shirts and toys... I was obsessed.

When I was about 3 years old, I was terrified of Godzilla. My brother had a bunch of Godzilla figures that my parents had to throw away cause they scared me so much (I still feel bad about this so I occasionally buy him new ones). As time went on, my fear was gradually replaced by curiosity. Every so often I would look at my brother's VHS's and ask him what each film was like. Then one day I took Godzilla 1998 (I know, I know) into my sister's room, popped it in the VCR and it captured my imagination like nothing else. I don't know for sure, but I believe the next one I watched was Son of Godzilla. The other tapes that helped develop my early fandom were Godzilla, King of the Monsters!, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Godzilla's Revenge, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Terror of MechaGodzilla, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla 2000, Gamera vs. Barugon, Gamera vs. Gyaos, and Gamera vs. Guiron. A very fond memory of mine is when my brother, my sister, and I all got our blankets and pillows and everything and we decided to all sleep in the living room, but not without watching Godzilla vs. Monster Zero first which proceeded to blow my mind when I witnessed Godzilla and Rodan beat up King Ghidorah IN SPACE. Nothing captivated my mind like kaiju films, and that's still the case to this day.

What got me into Godzilla and all other Kauji first started with my love for King Kong. As a very young kid around 4 or 5, I loved watching King Kong movies. The original 1933 film, the 1976 movie, and the 2005 remake. I actually used to have the DvD to the original movie. I would always be watching either one movie or the other until I finally started getting bored of the whole King Kong plot in all the movies. So I asked my mom if we could look on Netflix’s website to see if there were more movies I wasn’t aware of. Upon scrolling through the list, I saw one movie that immediately caught my eye with its movie front cover. “King Kong vs Godzilla.” Just the image alone of that green lizard completely captured my curiosity and put King Kong in the back burner. Ever since then, I have been a huge fan of everything Godzilla! And was pretty much why I ended up going on a vacation to Tokyo, Japan just about 10 years later. 🗻🇯🇵

i was a Godzilla fan since i was 4 years old. The first Godzilla movie i watched was Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster and after that i was hooked because that movie introduced me to the wonderful world of kaiju.
